Worcester College and the Ashmolean Museum

SACKLER RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

The College, in conjunction with the Museum, proposes to elect to a Research Fellowship, to be held in the Eastern Art Department in the Ashmolean Museum, for a period of two years from 1 October 2000. The Sackler Fellow will be expected, under the direction of the Keeper, to write and prepare for publication a catalogue of the Japanese paintings held in the Department. The candidate will be expected to have a reading knowledge of Japanese, and established competence in the field of Japanese painting.

The Sackler Fellow will receive a stipend of £13,200 in the first year, and £13,700 in the second, plus National Insurance contributions, and will be entitled to lunch and dine free of charge in the College. He or she will be expected, by arrangement with the Keeper, to work thirty-five hours over five days a week, and will be entitled to thirty-eight days' leave, inclusive of public holidays. The Fellowship is open to men and women, without age limit.

Applications (seven copies, or one from overseas candidates) must reach the Director's Secretary, Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, OX1 2PH by 12 March 2000. Candidates should ask three referees to write in confidence to the Director by the same date. Short-listed candidates will be interviewed in May 2000, and the College will reimburse reasonable travel costs.
