University Lecturers

Appointments made at University Lecturer level will be for three or five years in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is £20,811 a year, rising by eleven annual increments to £32,095.

University Lecturer in the Computer Laboratory

University Lecturer in the Computer Laboratory, to take up appointment on 1 October 2000 or as soon as possible thereafter. Candidates should have research interests within the general area of information security taken in a wide sense. These interests should be complementary to the Laboratory's existing security research. The person appointed will be expected to teach central subjects in Computer Science in addition to their own specialities.

University Lecturer in the Department of Pharmacology

University Lecturer in the Department of Pharmacology, to take up appointment from 1 October 2000 or as soon as possible thereafter. Applications are welcomed from candidates with research interests in all areas of relevance to pharmacology, and we are particularly interested in candidates working in the area of cellular neuroscience. OTHER POSTS

Research Associate in the Department of Engineering

Applications are invited for the position of Research Associate to work with Professor A. P. Dowling and Dr R. S. Cant on a fundamental study of combustion oscillations. Currently, the performance of aeroengines and power stations is limited by the onset of these instabilities. The Research Associate will undertake an experimental investigation into the causes of instability and will apply CFD to help to understand the results. The project is funded by the EPSRC and will involve collaboration with Rolls-Royce Industrial and Marine Gas Turbines and National Power. It is expected that the person appointed should have, or expect to have, a Ph.D. Degree in a relevant area, which includes experience of experimental techniques in fluid mechanics. A background in combustion and/or acoustics would be an advantage. The appointment will be for a period of up to three years, starting on 1 March 2000 or as soon as possible thereafter. The salary is on the Research Associate scale, up to a maximum of £24,479 a year.
