DOMUS GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS

Merton College is offering three or four Domus Graduate Scholarships in 2000, in two separate competitions, A and B. The Scholarships are intended to assist students of outstanding academic excellence who for financial reasons would not otherwise be able to study at the University of Oxford. They cover full board and accommodation in the College, College and University fees, and an additional grant of £2,700; this gives the Scholarships an annual value of between £10,200 and £24,000, depending on the origin of the student and the subject studied. Subject to satisfactory progress, the Scholarships will be tenable for three years.

Competition A is open to graduates of any university, who are not ordinarily resident in the UK, and have not done more than two years of postgraduate study or research, and propose to begin a course of study leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Oxford in October 2000 in any of the subjects normally acceptable for graduate study at the College, and have no other funding which would allow them to do so. The College intends to award two Scholarships. The closing date for this competition is 25 February 2000. Applicants who have not been accepted as doctoral students by the relevant Faculty or Department of the University by Friday, 17 March 2000 will be rejected. This process, over which the College has no control, may take about two months. Competition B is open to graduates of any university with a first class honours degree, who are ordinarily resident in the UK, and have not done more than two years of postgraduate study or research, and have been accepted to begin a course of study leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Oxford in October 2000 in any subject normally acceptable for graduate study at the College, and have no other funding which would allow them to do so. The College intends to award one or two Scholarships. Those interested in applying should contact the Assistant Tutorial Secretary as above. Enquiries may be made at any time after 1 January 2000, but applications should be submitted no earlier than 15 August 2000. The closing date will be 4 September 2000.
