University Computing Service: Notice

Christmas and New Year Closing

The Computing Service will be closed from 12.30 p.m. on Friday, 24 December 1999, until 8.45 a.m. on Tuesday, 4 January 2000. During this period central services will be left running but staff will not be in attendance. Although there is no guarantee that any problems occurring will be fixed before 4 January, reasonable efforts will be made to restore broken services where the appropriate staff are available.

The Old Music School will be closed from 12.30 p.m. on Friday, 24 December 1999, until Tuesday, 4 January 2000, and the Sidgwick Computing Facility in the Faculty of Oriental Studies basement will be closed from 5 p.m. on Wednesday, 22 December 1999, and will reopen at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, 5 January 2000.

Year 2000

The Director of the University Computing Service wishes to remind members of the University that it is especially important to ensure that backups of all important documents and data are made before 31 December 1999.

Personal workstations and servers should be switched off during the Christmas and New Year holiday unless there are strong reasons why the services they supply need to be left running.
