VACANCIES

Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies

DEPUTY LIBRARIAN/HEBREW CATALOGUER

The Leopold Muller Memorial Library holds one of the foremost collections of modern Hebraica and Judaica in Europe. Following the recent expansion and refurbishment of the Library, a new full-time post of Deputy Librarian/Hebrew Cataloguer has been established to assist in the integration of a major acquisition of modern Hebraica.

The main responsibility of the post will be the cataloguing of the Elkoshi Collection of Haskalah and modern Hebrew literature. The post-holder will also assist in the daily management of the Library, located on two sites, in collaboration with the Librarian and several part-time library assistants. The post requires a high level of competence in Hebrew language and literature, organizational skills, and the ability to catalogue and classify Hebraica, mainly nineteenth- and twentieth-century literature. Professional library qualifications, experience of an academic library, or equivalent expertise will be expected. The salary will be in the range £18,915 to £24,479 a year (equivalent to Grade 2 on the academic-related administrative salary scale).

It is hoped that the appointee will be able to take up the post as early as possible in the new year. Letters of application, together with a curriculum vitae and the names and addresses of two referees, should be sent to the Librarian, Leopold Muller Memorial Library, Yarnton Manor, Church Lane, Yarnton, Oxford, OX5 1PY, by 10 December 1999.
