Philosophical Society

Professor R. A. Laskey, FRS, of the Wellcome/CRC Institute, will deliver a lecture, entitled Chromosome replication in normal cells and cancer, at 8.30 p.m. on Monday, 22 November, in the Cockcroft Lecture Theatre, New Museums Site. All who are interested are invited. The presentation of the Society's William Bate Hardy Prize will be made before the lecture.

At a meeting held on 8 November, Dr A. J. Munro, President, was in the Chair. Forty-four Fellows were elected and one Fellow was re-elected. During 1999, a total of 151 Fellows have been elected and sixteen have been re-elected.

Dr S. Pellegrino, of the Department of Engineering, delivered a lecture, entitled Umbrellas for space: a new generation of deployable antennas. A vote of thanks to the speaker was moved by Professor D. E. Newland.
