Cambridge Display Technology Holdings plc was established to exploit light-emitting polymer technology which was developed in the Department of Physics and the Department of Chemistry. Shares in this company are held by Cambridge University Technical Services, a company wholly owned by the University. Part of this shareholding has now been sold, and as a consequence of the sale it is proposed to establish two funds for the support of research in the Departments concerned.

In 1997 the Trustees of the Isaac Newton Trust made a loan of £1m to the Isaac Newton Institute, for the purpose of contributing to recurrent infrastructure costs. The Trustees have now converted this loan to an outright gift, and it is proposed to establish an endowment fund for the support of the Institute and its activities.

See the Council's Notice (p. 78). The recommendations in the Report contained scales of stipends which were current in March 1999. The current scales of stipends were published in Reporter, 1998-99, p. 921. These are based on an interim increase of 3.5 per cent and further adjustments may be necessary in the light of any final settlement.

See the Council's Notice (p. 80).

Statutes and Ordinances, p. 639. The sums received from Dr Robert Sansom, of Emmanuel College, now constitute a full endowment for the Professorship of Computer Science (1998). In recognition of this generous benefaction, and having now received Dr Sansom's approval of the proposal, it is proposed to retitle the Professorship.
