ERNEST COOK RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

The Governing Body invites applications from women and men holding postdoctoral appointments for a non-stipendiary Ernest Cook Junior Research Fellowship in Environmental Studies (Plant Ecology, Animal Ecology, Behavioural Ecology, Conservation and Wildlife Management, Pest and Disease Control, Agriculture (environmental aspects), Forestry, Geology, Human Geography, Human Ecology, Ecological Genetics, Marine Biology, Agricultural Economics, Lower Atmosphere and Climate). The Fellowship can be awarded for up to three years from Hilary Term 2000, or for the duration of the postdoctoral appointment, whichever is the shorter. Preference will be given to those whose doctoral degrees were obtained not more than three years ago. The Fellow will be entitled to reside in College throughout the tenure of the Fellowship. He or she will be a full member of the Senior Common Room. Full board and residence are offered (except for brief periods when the College is closed). He or she will also be entitled to apply to the College for additional funds for research (for example, for equipment and travel). The Governing Body will require an annual report on the progress of his or her work, which will be forwarded to the Ernest Cook Trustees.

Candidates should give details of the work they will be doing in Oxford (in not more than 500 words), and of their means of support. Applications (six copies), including a curriculum vitae and the names of two referees, should be sent to the College Secretary, Somerville College, Oxford, OX2 6HD. Referees should be asked to write directly to the College Secretary under confidential cover. The closing date for applications is Friday, 5 November 1999. It is hoped to interview short-listed candidates in the week beginning 22 November.
