The Fulbright Commission

FULBRIGHT AWARDS FOR STUDY IN THE UNITED STATES 2000-01

Applicants must be UK citizens and ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom. All awards must be taken up no earlier than September 2000 and no later than Easter 2001.

Fulbright Postgraduate Awards

Approximately twelve scholarships covering maintenance, travel and tuition fees for the first academic year are available for postgraduate study in any subject. Closing date: 4 November 1999.

Fulbright Robertson Visiting Professor in British History

This award enables a senior or junior lecturer to spend ten months at Westminster College, Fulton, Missouri. The successful candidate will receive a grant of approximately $40,000 together with round-trip travel for him or herself and up to four accompanying dependants. Closing date: 27 January 2000.

Fulbright Sponsored MBA Awards

A number of business sponsored awards aimed at postgraduate professionals intending to further their career in business and industry. Closing date: 27 January 2000.

Royal Society Fulbright Postdoctoral Science Fellowship Programme

Three awards to enhance the research capabilities of outstanding individual scientists wishing to develop international/Anglo-American collaborative links in order to promote excellence in science. Applications from all fields of science are welcome (except social science and clinical medical research). Awards are for a minimum of twelve months and are worth a maximum of £25,000 inclusive of round trip travel. Closing date: 14 February 2000.

Fulbright Distinguished Scholar Awards

Two awards of £15,000 are offered to academics or professionals who are established or potential leaders in their field to facilitate research and/or lecturing for a minimum of ten months. Candidates must have an invitation from a top US institution. Closing date: 16 March 2000.

Fulbright Zeneca Research Scholarship

One award offered in conjunction with AstraZeneca for a postdoctoral scientist with an invitation to conduct research at a top centre in the US on an aspect of cell biology or molecular biology or bio-informatics. The award period is for a minimum of ten months and is worth £15,000 plus round trip travel. Closing date: 16 March 2000.

Fulbright Fellowship in Cancer Research

An award of £15,000 (inclusive of travel) will be offered to enable a postdoctoral scientist or clinician to spend a minimum of six months in the United States. The successful candidate will carry out research or follow a course of study in the cancer field or combine the two. Closing date: 11 April 2000.

Fulbright Louise Buchanan Fellowship

An award of £4,000 plus round-trip travel will be offered to a scientist or clinician to carry out research into cancers of the lymph glands for four months in the USA. Closing date: 11 April 2000.

Fulbright Chester Schirmer Fellowship in Music Composition

One fellowship to enable a talented young British composer to extend his or her artistic experience in the US and to take an important step in developing an international reputation. The award is for a minimum of four months (maximum of twelve) and is worth a maximum of £12,000 plus round trip travel. Closing date: to be confirmed.
