REGULATIONS FOR EXAMINATIONS: NOTICE BY THE GENERAL BOARD

The General Board give notice that, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board or other authority concerned, they have approved amendments of the regulations for certain University examinations, as follows:

Education Tripos

The Schedule to the regulations for the Education Tripos (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 277) has been amended, with effect from 1 October 1999, as follows:

Natural Sciences

By amending the detail so as to read:

One of the following combinations:

(a) From Part IA of the Natural Sciences Tripos: Biology of Cells (the written paper and the practical examination) and Biology of Organisms (the written paper and the practical examination).
(b) From Part IB of the Natural Sciences Tripos: any two of the following options:
(1) Animal Biology (both the written papers and the submission of practical note-books).
(2) Ecology (both the written papers and the submission of practical note-books).
(3) History and Philosophy of Science (both the written papers).
(c) From Part IA and Part IB of the Natural Sciences Tripos and Part I of the Archaeological and Anthropological Tripos: two of the following options, one to be chosen from Group I and one from Group II:

Group I

(1) Biology of Cells (the written paper and the practical examination) from Part IA of the Natural Sciences Tripos.
(2) Biology of Organisms (the written paper and the practical examination) from Part IA of the Natural Sciences Tripos.
(3) Animal Biology (both the written papers and the submission of practical note-books) from Part IB of the Natural Sciences Tripos.
(4) Ecology (both the written papers and the submission of practical note-books) from Part IB of the Natural Sciences Tripos.

Group II

(1) Paper 2, Humans in biological perspective, from Part I of the Archaeological and Anthropological Tripos, together with a dissertation on a subject in Bioethics.
(2) Either Paper 1 or Paper 2 of the papers in History and Philosophy of Science from Part IB of the Natural Sciences Tripos, together with a dissertation on a subject in Bioethics.

A dissertation offered in one of the options of Group II shall conform to the requirements of Regulation 12(b) for the Education Tripos, and shall be between 6,000 and 8,000 words in length, inclusive of notes and appendices.
