Schlumberger Professorship of Complex Physical Systems: Notice

The Board of Electors to the Schlumberger Professorship of Complex Physical Systems invite applications for this Professorship, to take up appointment as soon as possible. The Professorship will be held in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics. It is envisaged that the successful applicant's major interests will encompass the mathematical description and physical understanding of complex spatially-extended systems whose overall behaviour is determined by a variety of physical phenomena on a wide range of scales (i.e. problems of 'scaling physics').

Further information may be obtained from the Secretary General of the Faculties, University Offices, The Old Schools, Cambridge, CB2 1TT, to whom applications (one copy) should be sent, together with the names of two referees, so as to reach him not later than Friday, 3 September 1999. Informal enquiries may be made to Professor D. G. Crighton, Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, Silver Street, Cambridge, CB3 9EW (e-mail dgc@damtp.cam.ac.uk, tel. 01223 337855). Information concerning the Department may be obtained via http://www.damtp.cam.ac.uk/.

The appointment will be subject to the Statutes and Ordinances of the University. The University is committed to equality of opportunity.
