Grants from the Colleges Fund: Notice

21 June 1999

The Council have received the following report from the Committee of Management of the Colleges Fund, which under Regulation 4 for the Fund (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 874) they now publish to the University.

1. The Committee met recently to consider applications for grants from a number of Colleges; these were submitted in a form designed to enable the Committee to assess the extent to which the existing invested and functional assets of the Colleges were at an adequate level.

2. The amount of money available in the Fund for distribution in 1999 is approximately £2.8m. It is expected that a further sum of just under £2m will be available in 2000.

3. The Committee of Management have approved the following grants to the corporate capital of Colleges, to be paid shortly:

  £
Clare Hall 70,000
Darwin 216,000
Downing 127,000
Fitzwilliam 368,000
Hughes Hall 322,000
Lucy Cavendish 339,000
Magdalene 118,000
New Hall 215,000
Robinson 321,000
St Edmund's 256,000
Wolfson 435,000
Total 2,787,000

4. The Committee anticipate that grants payable in 2000 will be calculated on the same basis, although the size of such grants will be dependent on the amount of money available. The basis for future distributions, from 2000-01 onwards, is currently being reviewed in the light of the proposed amendments of Statute G, II (see the Council's Report of 15 March 1999, Reporter, p. 472). Consultation with the Colleges will take place during the Michaelmas Term 1999.
