University offices: Vacancy

The University follows an equal opportunities policy and has a policy on arrangements for part-time work.

Applications are invited for the following University office:

Administrative Officer in the University Offices (Finance Division)

Administrative Officer, Grade I, in the University Offices (Finance Division) to take up appointment as soon as possible. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of accounting matters including monitoring and validating accounting entries made by departments and also assisting with the preparation of the University's published Abstract of Accounts. The post carries responsibility for other members of staff whose areas of work include budgeting, fee collection, and investment accounting. The University is in the early stage of implementing a new ERP system using Oracle Financials and therefore experience of this accounting system would be advantageous. The postholder would be expected to be involved in this process, particularly with respect to the set-up of the general ledger and implementation within the Finance Division. Thereafter the duties will be adjusted to reflect the central co-ordination of a large and complex organization running a major financial package. The appointment will be for three years, unless the Council waive this requirement, in which case the appointment will be for a period not exceeding five years. An Administrative Officer may be reappointed to the retiring age when he or she has reached the maximum of the scale of stipends for the grade.

The pensionable scale of stipends for an Administrative Officer, Grade I, is £21,815 a year, rising by five annual increments to £26,523 (under review).

Further information may be obtained from the Principal Assistant Treasurer, The Old Schools, Cambridge, CB2 1TS (tel. 01223 332230, e-mail dw10000@admin.cam.ac.uk), to whom applications, including a curriculum vitae and the names of three referees, should be sent so as to reach him not later than 18 June 1999.
