Report of the Council on the Cycle for the nomination of Proctors: Notice

24 May 1999

The Council have considered the remarks made by Dr Evans at the Discussion of this Report on 11 May 1999 (Reporter, p. 623).

Dr Evans's remarks refer to several general issues of importance to the University:

(a) the role and duties of the Proctors;
(b) consistency and good practice in disciplinary codes and procedures for members and employees of the University;
(c) management accountability in the University.

The Council have many of the individual issues under review, particularly through their Committee on the second Nolan Report, through their Standing Advisory Committee on Student Matters, and through ad hoc working groups, such as the Joint Working Group on the review of examination results of students other than Graduate Students, to which Dr Evans refers and which is expected to report shortly.

The Council and the General Board are considering a revision of the current version of the statement of policy on misconduct in research. When approved the revised version will replace the current one, which is available on the Web at http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/offices/personnel/misconduct.html.

The Council note that none of the remarks were directly concerned with their proposal to extend the Cycle for the nomination of Proctors. They are accordingly submitting a Grace to the Regent House (Grace 7, p. 662) for the approval of the recommendation contained in their Report.
