Department of Chemistry

COMPUTER OFFICER, GRADE II

The Department of Chemistry has a vacancy for a Computer Officer, Grade II, to take up appointment as soon as possible. The appointment is funded for five years in the first instance; reappointment will be sub-ject to satisfactory performance and further funds becoming available. The successful applicant will join a team responsible for all aspects of the Department's computing needs, including installation and management of the Ethernet, system management of UNIX workstations and clusters, installation and maintenance of office hardware and software (PC and Macintosh), and offering advice to users. A new Centre for Molecular Sciences Informatics is being set up in the Department, funded by Unilever plc, and it is anticipated that the appointee will have substantial involvement with this new Centre. Candidates must have appropriate professional qualifications and relevant experience. Familiarity with Windows NT and/or UNIX system administration is essential.

The pensionable stipend will be in the range £22,726 to £26,523 a year, according to age and experience.
