CLARK LECTURES, 1999

John Hollander, of Yale University, will lecture on The substance of shadow: a darkening trope in poetic history, at 5 p.m. on the following days in the Mill Lane Lecture Rooms:

Wednesday, 3 March: A lecture upon the shadow.

Thursday, 4 March: Shadows and shades.

Wednesday, 10 March: Shadowes light.

Thursday, 11 March: A shadow different from either.

The lectures are open to all.

TEMPORARY LECTURESHIP IN ECONOMICS

Applications are invited from men or women for appointment to a Temporary Lectureship in Economics from 1 October 1999 for one year in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointment for a further two years. The successful applicant will assist in supervising and directing studies in Economics in the College. The Lectureship is tenable with or without another salaried appointment in the University. For a Lecturer with no other post, the stipend will be on a scale roughly comparable with that for University Lecturers, with placing according to age and qualifications.
