The following persons have been appointed in the manner prescribed by Ordinance to preach before the University during the academical year 1999-2000.
24 October | The Revd June Osborne, of the Victoria University of Manchester; Canon Treasurer of Salisbury Cathedral. |
7 November | Professor R. D. McKitterick, Fellow of Newnham College; Professor of Early Medieval European History and Professor-elect of Medieval History in the University of Cambridge. (The Lady Margaret's Preacher, Commemoration of Benefactors). |
6 February | The Revd Professor Peter Gomes, Professor of Christian Morals in the Divinity School, Harvard University. |
5 March | The Revd Professor Michael Banner, of Balliol and St Peter's Colleges, Oxford, and of Peterhouse; F. D. Maurice Professor of Social Theology at King's College in the University of London (Hulsean Sermon). |
7 May | Dr Grace Davie, Lecturer in Sociology in the University of Exeter. |
21 May | The Revd Dr Aylward Shorter, Principal of Tangaza College, Nairobi (Ramsden Sermon). |
University Sermons are delivered in Great St Mary's Church at 11.15 a.m. on the Sundays stated.
The Vice-Chancellor, on the recommendation of the Master of Corpus Christi College, has nominated Professor W. Horbury, Fellow of Corpus Christi College and Professor of Jewish and Early Christian Studies in the University of Cambridge, as Preacher at the Commemoration of John Mere, in St Bene't's Church at 11.45 a.m. on Tuesday, 25 April 2000.
The Preacher before the University at King's College, at 10.30 a.m. on Sunday, 4 June 2000, will be Dr N. O. A. Bullock, Fellow of the College.
