Archaeological and Anthropological Tripos, Part IIB, 1999: Notice

The General Board give notice that, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Archaeology and Anthropology, and notwithstanding the provisions of Regulation 17 for the Archaeological and Anthropological Tripos, they have agreed to permit Ms L. J. Harrad, of St John's College, and Ms P. J. Patrick, of Gonville and Caius College, to offer the following combinations of papers and other exercises in Part IIB of that Tripos in 1999:

Ms Harrad: Papers A4, A5, A10, A25, and a dissertation.

Ms Patrick: Papers A3, A4, A5, A12, and a dissertation.

These two candidates have received incorrect advice about the examination requirements and have been preparing for the combinations of papers shown, although these do not conform to the requirements of the regulations. The General Board have received pleas of incuria from the candidates' Directors of Studies and from the Head of the Department of Archaeology.

The Faculty Board of Archaeology and Anthropology give notice that, with effect from the examination to be held in 1999, the form of the examination for certain papers of Part IIB of the Archaeological and Anthropological Tripos will be as follows:

Archaeology

Paper A6. Archaeological Science II
Paper A24.  Archaeology of the Americas

These papers will not be divided into sections. In each paper candidates will be required to answer three questions.

Biological Anthropology

Paper B4.  Human genetics and variation
Paper B5.  Human population ecology
Paper B6.  Human evolutionary biology

These papers will not be divided into sections. In each paper candidates will be required to answer three questions.

Paper B7.  Behaviour and adaptation in primates and humans

This paper will be divided into two sections. Candidates will be required to answer three questions, including at least one from each section.

Social Anthropology

Papers S1-S11.

These papers will not be divided into sections. In each paper candidates will be required to answer three questions.
