LL.M. Examination, 1999: Notice

The Faculty Board of Law give notice that, with effect from the examination to be held in 1999, the form of the LL.M. Examination will be changed, as follows:

Paper 17. European private law
Paper 36. Advanced trust law

Each paper will contain not less than six questions, of which candidates will be required to attempt any three.

Paper 5. International sales
Paper 11. Jurisprudence
Paper 19. Private law and political theory

Each paper will contain ten questions, of which candidates will be required to attempt any four.

Paper 8. History of English civil and criminal law, 1485-1710
Paper 32. Modern legal history

Each paper will contain not less than ten questions. Candidates taking the three-hour paper will be required to attempt any three questions, and candidates taking the two-hour paper will be required to attempt any two. Candidates who have submitted an essay are advised not to attempt a question which overlaps substantially with the subject of the essay; credit will not be given for material which is reused.

Paper 2. International commercial litigation
Paper 21. Law of peace
Paper 24. Settlement of international disputes
Paper 27. Competition law
Paper 29. Family law and policy

Each paper will contain not less than eight questions, of which candidates will be required to attempt any three.

Paper 33. External relations law of the European Union
Paper 34. Civil and social rights in the European Union

Each paper will be divided into two sections and will contain not less than eight questions. Candidates will be required to attempt three questions, including at least one from each section.

Paper 22. International human rights law
Paper 37. The WTO and international economic law

Each paper will contain not less than eight questions. Candidates taking the three-hour paper will be required to attempt any three questions, and candidates taking the two-hour paper will be required to attempt any two. Candidates who have submitted an essay are advised not to attempt a question which overlaps substantially with the subject of the essay; credit will not be given for material which is reused.

Paper 1. Law of taxation

This paper will be divided into two sections. Section A will contain two questions and Section B will contain one problem question. Candidates will be required to attempt one question from Section A and the question from Section B.

Paper 3. Conflict of laws

This paper will contain not less than eight questions, of which candidates will be required to attempt any four.

Paper 4. The law of restitution

This paper will contain not less than nine questions, of which candidates will be required to attempt any four.

Paper 7. History of English civil and criminal law, 1154-1485

This paper will contain not less than ten questions, of which candidates will be required to attempt any three.

Paper 9. Law and practice of civil liberties

This paper will be divided into two sections and will contain not less than eight questions. Candidates taking the three-hour paper will be required to attempt three questions, including at least one from Section A. Candidates taking the two-hour paper will be required to attempt two questions, one from Section A and one from Section B. Candidates who have submitted an essay are advised not to attempt a question which overlaps substantially with the subject of the essay; credit will not be given for material which is reused.

Paper 10. Public law

This paper will contain not less than nine questions. Candidates taking the three-hour paper will be required to attempt any three questions and candidates taking the two-hour paper will be required to attempt any two. Candidates who have submitted an essay are advised not to attempt a question which overlaps substantially with the subject of the essay; credit will not be given for material which is reused.

Paper 13. Comparative law

This paper will contain eight questions, of which candidates will be required to attempt any four.

Paper 23. Law of armed conflict, use of force, and peacekeeping

This paper will be divided into two sections, and will contain not less than ten questions. Candidates will be required to attempt three questions, including at least one from Section A and at least one from Section B.

Paper 26. Issues in European economic law

This paper will be divided into four sections. Each section will contain not less than two questions. Candidates will be required to attempt three questions, of which not more than one may be taken from any section.

Paper 30. Philosophy of criminal law

This paper will be divided into two sections. Each section will contain not less than four questions. Candidates will be required to attempt three questions, of which at least one must be taken from Section A and at least one from Section B.

Paper 31. Commercial insurance law

This paper will contain not less than ten questions, of which candidates will be required to attempt any four.

Whewell Scholarship paper on problems and disputed points in International Law

This paper will contain not less than eight questions, of which candidates will be required to attempt any three.
