St Hilda's College, Oxford

TUTORIAL FELLOWSHIP IN ENGLISH LITERATURE

St Hilda's College proposes to elect an Official Fellow and Tutor in English Literature, with effect from 1 October 1998, or as soon as possible thereafter. The Fellow will hold the title and undertake the full duties of a University (CUF) Lecturer. No election will be made by the College unless the University's English Board and General Board of the Faculties confirm their willingness to confer this title. No separate application for the title is required. This is intended to be a permanent appointment.

Applications are invited from women specializing in English literature from 1509 to 1832. Expertise in one of the following areas would be advantageous: Shakespeare; Renaissance drama; Restoration drama.

BARBARA PYM TUTORIAL FELLOWSHIP IN ENGLISH LITERATURE

St Hilda's College proposes to elect an Official Fellow and Tutor in English Literature, with effect from 1 January 1999. The Fellowship will be held in conjunction with a Titular University Lecturership, which may at a later date (but without commitment meanwhile on the part of the University) be converted into a University (CUF) Lecturership. No separate application for this title is required. This is intended to be a permanent appointment.

Applications are invited from women specializing in nineteenth- and twentieth-century English literature, and able to teach critical theory. Expertise in one or more of the following areas would be an advantage: Victorian poetry; American literature; women's writing; international literatures in English.

Further particulars and a cover sheet for applications (please specify PYM FELLOWSHIP) should be obtained from the Academic Administrator at the above address. The closing date for applications (ten copies, or one if from abroad) is Friday, 22 May. Applicants should send their applications to the Principal of St Hilda's, c/o the Academic Administrator, and also ask their referees to write directly to the Principal, c/o the Academic Administrator, by that date. It is expected that interviews will be held on Thursday, 2 July.

Only women are eligible to hold Fellowships at St Hilda's College. This is a provision of the College Statutes made under the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge Act, 1923, and remains lawful by virtue of section 5(3) of the Employment Act 1989.
