COMPUTER ASSOCIATE, GRADE II (FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME)

Applications are invited for a Computer Associate, Grade II (full-time or part-time), to join the Department's Computer Systems Group and to provide support for information systems and administrative computing. The group consists of ten Computer Officers and is responsible for running the main Computer Teaching System, many of the research and administrative systems, and the network connecting in all around 1,200 computers. Members of the group have specific areas of expertise and responsibility but are expected to contribute to other areas of the group's work when the need arises. The job offers an exciting opportunity to assist in the work of the Head of Department's Office, the Faculty Board Office, the Director of Research's Office, and the Teaching Office. Once an intimate knowledge of the operation of these offices has been gained it is expected that the post holder will be able to contribute to the design and implementation of improved systems for data storage, exchange, and analysis. Proven technical ability, a good degree and/or equivalent qualification, and good communication skills are required. An ability to teach non-specialists how to use simple tools is just as important as the requirement to be able to discuss complex technical issues with experts among the teaching staff. Experience of databases, management information systems, and the Worldwide Web, in an environment of PCs and Macs with some Unix servers, would be an advantage.

The initial appointment will be for two years. The pensionable scale of stipends for a Computer Associate, Grade II, is £21,894 a year, rising by four annual increments to £25,552, and pro-rata for a part-time appointment.
