(a) | To reinstate the three Special Subjects, Immunology, Virology, and Genetic Pathology. These three Special Subjects, together with four others, were discontinued in 1997. The Faculty Board of Biology believe that as a result of this change in the scope of the examination candidates' choice of subject is now unduly restricted; they have also found that the withdrawal of these three Special Subjects within the field of Pathology has led to excessive pressure in other areas of the subject. |
(b) | To introduce two new Special Subjects, Mechanisms of Disease A and B. These two Special Subjects are to be offered only as a pair. |
(c) | To retitle the Special Subject History of Medicine as History of Medicine, Body, and Mind. This reflects a change in the emphasis of the course, which results from changes in the papers set in the subject History and Philosophy of Science in Part II of the Natural Sciences Tripos. |
(d) | To retitle the Special Subject Human Evolution, Behaviour, and Ecology as Primate and Human Evolutionary Biology and Behaviour. This results from changes in the papers set for Biological Anthropology in the Archaeological and Anthropological Tripos. |
The regulations have been amended, with effect from 1 October 1998, as follows:
