LL.M. Examination, 1998: Notice

The Faculty Board of Law give notice that, with effect from the examination to be held in 1998, the form of the LL.M. Examination will be changed as follows:
Paper 7. History of English civil and criminal law 1154-1485
Paper 31. Commercial insurance law

 Each paper will contain not less than ten questions, of which candidates will be required to attempt any four.

Paper 5. International sales Paper 19. Private law and political theory
Paper 11. Jurisprudence

 Each paper will contain ten questions, of which candidates will be required to attempt any four.

Paper 8. History of English civil and criminal law 1485-1710
Paper 25. The European Union as a new legal order
Paper 32. Modern legal history

 Each paper will contain not less than ten questions. Candidates taking the three-hour paper will be required to attempt any three questions. Candidates taking the two-hour paper will be required to attempt any two questions. Candidates who have submitted an essay are advised not to attempt a question which overlaps substantially with the subject of the essay; credit will not be given for material which is re-used.

Paper 2. International commercial litigation Paper 35. European legal history
Paper 24. Settlement of international disputes

 Each paper will contain not less than eight questions, of which candidates will be required to attempt any three.

Paper 33. External relations law of the European Union
Paper 34. Civil and social rights in the European Union

 Each paper will be divided into two sections and will contain not less than eight questions. Candidates will be required to attempt three questions, of which at least one must be taken from each section.

Paper 16. Intellectual property Paper 22. International human rights law
Paper 21. Law of peace

 Each paper will contain not less than eight questions. Candidates taking the three-hour paper will be required to attempt any three questions. Candidates taking the two-hour paper will be required to attempt any two questions. Candidates who have submitted an essay are advised not to attempt a question which overlaps substantially with the subject of the essay; credit will not be given for material which is re-used.

Paper 15. Corporate finance law Paper 17. Comparative criminal procedure

 Each paper will contain not less than six questions. Candidates taking the three-hour paper will be required to attempt any three questions. Candidates taking the two-hour paper will be required to attempt any two questions. Candidates who have submitted an essay are advised not to attempt a question which overlaps substantially with the subject of the essay; credit will not be given for material which is re-used.

Paper 1. Law of taxation

 The paper will be divided into two sections. Section A will contain two essay questions and Section B will contain one problem question. Candidates will be required to attempt one question from Section A and the question from Section B.

Paper 3. Conflict of laws

 The paper will contain not less than eight questions, of which candidates will be required to attempt any four.

Paper 4. The Law of restitution

 The paper will contain not less than nine questions, of which candidates will be required to attempt any four.

Paper 6. Environmental law and policy

 The paper will contain not less than nine questions. Candidates taking the three-hour paper will be required to attempt any three questions. Candidates taking the two-hour paper will be required to attempt any two questions. Candidates who have submitted an essay are advised not to attempt a question which overlaps substantially with the subject of the essay; credit will not be given for material which is re-used.

Paper 9. Law and practice of civil liberties

 The paper will be divided into two sections and will contain not less than eight questions. Candidates taking the three-hour paper will be required to attempt three questions, of which one must be taken from Section A. Candidates taking the two-hour paper will be required to attempt two questions, of which one must be taken from Section A and one from Section B. Candidates who have submitted an essay are advised not to attempt a question which overlaps substantially with the subject of the essay; credit will not be given for material which is re-used.

Paper 10. Public law

 The paper will contain not less than nine questions, of which candidates will be required to attempt any three.

Paper 13. Comparative law

 The paper will contain eight questions, of which candidates will be required to attempt any four.

Paper 20. History and theory of international law

 The paper will contain not less than ten questions. Candidates taking the three-hour paper will be required to attempt any three questions and candidates taking the two-hour paper will be required to attempt any two.

Paper 23. Law of armed conflict, use of force, and peacekeeping

 The paper will be divided into two sections and will contain not less than ten questions. Candidates will be required to attempt three questions, of which at least one must be taken from Section A.

Paper 29. Family law and policy

 The paper will be divided into two sections. Section A will contain not less than three questions and Section B will contain not less than five questions. Candidates taking the three-hour paper will be required to attempt any three questions; candidates taking the two-hour paper will be required to attempt two questions from Section B only.

Paper 30. Philosophy of criminal law

 The paper will be divided into three sections and will contain not less than eight questions. Sections A and B will each contain not less than three questions and Section C will contain not less than two questions. Candidates taking the three-hour paper will be required to attempt three questions. Candidates taking the two-hour paper will be required to attempt two questions from Sections A and B only. All candidates must attempt at least one question from Section A and at least one question from Section B.

Whewell Scholarship paper on problems and disputed points in international law

 The paper will contain not less than eight questions, of which candidates will be required to attempt any four.
