Examination in Musical Composition for the M.Phil. Degree (one-year course)

On the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Music, and with the approval of the General Board and the Board of Graduate Studies, the regulations for the examination in Musical Composition for the M.Phil. Degree (one-year course) (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 475) have been amended as set out below. The purpose of the amendments is to reduce the amount of written work that candidates are required to submit in the examination. The Faculty Board are satisfied that no candidate's preparation for the examination in 1998 is adversely affected by these amendments. The regulations have been amended, with immediate effect, as follows:

Regulation 1.

(b) one essay, of not more than 5,000 words in length, on a subject relating to
either (i) the problems and methods of teaching composition in a period in the history of music;
