Applications are invited for the following University offices:
University Lecturer or University Assistant Lecturer in Greco-Roman Art, with a specialized interest in the history of Greek and Roman art. The aim of the post is to develop new areas of research and teaching in the history of art, within the more general context of ancient cultural history. It is expected that the interests of the person appointed will extend into other fields, such as art history in general, or the broader material culture of Greece and Rome, or ancient history, or Classical literature. This would complement and reinforce the Faculty's existing interdisciplinary strengths, and would provide a focus for a distinguished and attractive teaching programme in Greco-Roman art at all levels.
University Lecturer or University Assistant Lecturer in Linguistics and Philology. The Linguistics and Philology Section of the Faculty is responsible for teaching descriptive linguistics of Greek and Latin for Part I of the Classical Tripos, and the historical linguistics of the two languages and comparative linguistics of the Indo-European languages for Part II, as well as for supervising graduate students working in these fields. The successful candidate will be required to take a full part in these activities and to engage in research relevant to the teaching programme.
The appointments will be made at either University Lecturer or University Assistant Lecturer level, depending on the age and experience of the persons appointed, and will be for three years, with the possibility, for a University Lecturer, of reappointment to the retiring age or, for a University Assistant Lecturer, of reappointment for two years. The statutory limit of tenure of a University Assistant Lecturership is five years, but all holders of the office of University Assistant Lecturer are considered for possible appointment to the office of University Lecturer during the course of their tenure.
