How to get to the Board of Graduate Studies

Directions for visitors

The Board of Graduate Studies is located on Mill Lane off Trumpington Street and is entered by four relatively steep steps (there is no handrail or ramp). All visitors must report to Reception upon arrival, which is immediately apparent, once you are through the main entrance.

Arriving by train

There are fast trains from London King's Cross Station to Cambridge every half hour, taking about 50 minutes. There are also cross-country connections from the Midlands via Peterborough and from Stansted airport. Full timetable details are available from Network Rail.

Taxis and buses to the city centre are available from the station which is a 20 minute walk from the Board.

Arriving by coach or bus

The central drop-off point for coach services is the city bus station on Drummer Street which is a ten minute walk from the Board. Full information about coach and bus routes to and from Cambridge is available.

Arriving by car

There are four Park & Ride sites around Cambridge: Cowley Road (north), Newmarket Road (east), Babraham Road (south) and Madingley Road (west). Buses to the city centre run every 12 minutes, starting at around 7am and finishing at around 8pm.

If you are driving into Cambridge, the nearest car park to the Board of Graduate Studies is the Lion Yard car park on Pembroke Street. Metered parking is also available along Queen's Road (the Backs) where there is a two hour restriction.

  • If arriving from the south, come up the M11 to Junction 12 and follow the signs to the city centre (and the Lion Yard car park).
  • If arriving from the north or west, leave the A14 at the junction with the A1307 and follow the signs to the city centre (and the Lion Yard car park) via Queen's Road (the inner ring road).
  • If arriving from the east, leave the A14 at the junction with the A130 and follow the signs to the city centre (and the Lion Yard car park) via Chesterton Road and Queen's Road (the inner ring road).

Arriving by taxi

Ask your driver to take you to 4 Mill Lane off Trumpington Street. It should be noted that waiting is forbidden.
