Cambridge Physics Centre presents: Transient astronomy: bursts, bangs and things that go bump in the night by Prof. Jocelyn Bell Burnell

Astronomers have traditionally used the largest available telescopes with long exposures to see fainter and fainter objects further and further away. Developments in computing and CCD technology mean that now we take many short exposure frames which we can add together to see the faint objects and any objects that flare, burst or eclipse.
