In Her Words: Women Artists and Life Writing Symposium

For centuries, women artists have produced autobiographical accounts of their lives and careers, using diaries, letters and other types of writing as a means of resistance, reflection, and self-fashioning. Taking a broad geographical approach, this symposium will address how women artists, between 1900 and the present, navigate their artistic identities through writing.

Casting Brucciani: death masks, tight rope walkers, boxers and murderers

Join Dr Rebecca Wade for an illuminating talk on Brucciani, supplier of plaster casts of ancient and modern statues during the 19th-20th centuries. The talk will take place in the atmospheric surroundings of the Museum of Classical Archaeology's Cast Gallery among many of the casts, which Brucciani himself supplied. Dr Wade will also be answering questions after her talk.

Henry VIII: the quest for an heir

Producing an heir obsessed all the Tudor monarchs, for the future of a fragile dynasty was at stake. In the case of Henry VIII we usually focus on the pregnancy history of his wives, but not on Henry's own issues with fertility. This lecture will look at his anxieties, and the resources—medical, religious, political—on which he drew to secure a male heir.

Having trouble getting tickets for the British Museum's wonderful Life and Death: Pompeii and Herculaneum exhibition? Fear not, Cineworld Cambridge is showing a live screening of the exhibition, featuring Professor Mary Beard and the Exhibition Curator Paul Roberts. A team from the Museum of Classical Archaeology will also be present to share some exciting objects from our collection with you.
