Rachmaninov: Cello Sonata and Vespers

The All-Night Vigil, or Vespers, is the pinnacle of Rachmaninov's sacred music. The huge variety of textures and rich harmonies it brings forth from traditional Russian chants shows a great composer at the height of his powers. The soaring melodies and gorgeous harmonies of Rachmaninov's cello sonata come from the same rich vein as his incredibly popular second piano concerto.
