Mel Bochner, Do I Have to Draw You a Picture? (2013).

DO I HAVE TO DRAW YOU A PICTURE?

The eighth exhibition at the Heong Gallery brings together a collection of contemporary American and British prints from the British Museum, and works in various media from private lenders, including prints, postcards, books, diagrammatic drawing, sign painting, tape recording, neon, LED, enamel plaques, bunting, and campaign posters.

Edgar Degas’s famous painting In a Café (L’Absinthe, 1875-6), features a dissolute bearded man whom Degas modeled on his characterful friend and fellow artist Marcellin Desboutin (1832-1902). Both men shared a passion for printmaking and this exhibition explores the Museum’s rare collection of Desboutin’s sensitively executed prints in drypoint
