'Choral dance and the new musical reinvention of Dionysus' (Prof. Eric Csapo).
Euripides’ choral odes after ca. 425 BC frequently describe other choruses dancing. The projected chorus’ movements wherever described are circular, and the projected choruses themselves are normally archetypal in character, and typically linked with Eleusis or Dionysus or both. This lecture will explore some of the meanings and motives behind this patterning.
