Writing non-fiction: telling true tales
Tue 14 January 2014 - Tue 11 February 2014
Institute of Continuing Education
Whether you’re interested in your great-grandfather’s four wives, a famous general or your own life history, this weekly course at Madingley Hall will help you to sift through the facts to find a compelling story.
We will discuss the ethics of writing about the past and explore the tools available for anyone who wants to bring it to life on the page. This series of workshops will give you the chance to experiment with your own writing and boost your confidence in creating a sense of place and describing real people and their motives. It will also look at the ways in which non-fiction writers deal with gaps in their story and 'missing people'.
7 January: Whose story is it anyway?
14 January: Description
21 January: Knowing your cast
28 January: Creating a sense of place
4 February: Mind the gap
This course will be supported by our virtual learning environment (VLE). You will be able to download course material, contact your tutor and talk to fellow students via the web at a time and place that’s convenient to you.
