‘Writing with confidence’ aims to take the isolation and frustration out of creative writing, and inject enthusiasm and confidence in their place.
The basic nuts and bolts of good fiction will be scrutinised, with attention to constructing a satisfying plot, writing believable characters, developing a narrative voice, creating effective dialogue, building atmosphere, sustaining tension and pace and, importantly, adopting useful strategies for self-editing. This short series of stimulating workshops at Madingley Hall will help you to engage with your own writing equipped with new perspectives, fresh ideas and the confidence to implement them with a renewed sense of purpose.
24 February: Plot
3 March: Character
10 March: Finding the voice
17 March: Atmosphere and tension
24 March: Editing
This course will be supported by our virtual learning environment (VLE). You will be able to download course material, contact your tutor and talk to fellow students via the web at a time and place that’s convenient to you.
