University Sermon on 'a sense of calling'

Frances Ward has been Dean of St Edmundsbury since 2010. Born in
Australia, she studied at the Universities of St Andrews and Manchester,
where she obtained her doctorate. In 1994 she was one of the first women
to be ordained priest in the Church of England
Formerly a Tutor in Practical Theology at Northern College, Manchester,
Dr Ward served as a parish priest and was Bishop's Adviser on Women in
Ministry in the Manchester Diocese and an Honorary Canon of the
Cathedral. Appointed to a Residentiary Canonry at Bradford Cathedral,
she was Canon Theologian there 2006-10. During her time in Bradford she
worked to develop greater understanding between people of different
faiths and in particular to build friendships with Muslims.
Frances Ward's publications include 'Lifelong Learning' in 2005 and the
jointly edited 'Theological Reflection Methods' and 'Theological
Reflection Sources' in 2005 and 2007. She co-edited 'Fear and
Friendship' with The Reverend Professor Sarah Coakley, which appeared in
2011, and Dr Ward's latest book is 'Why Rousseau was Wrong: Christianity
and the Secular Soul', published in 2013.
All are welcome and there will be a wine-reception in Michaelhouse
afterwards for those present.
