Hughes Hall Margaret Wileman Concert Series: JS Bach Goldberg Variations
Fri 5 June 2015
Hughes Hall
Harpsichordist Dan Tidhar will perform J S Bach’s Goldberg Variations in the Pavilion Room. Considered among the most original and monumental works within the repertoire for the instrument, the Goldberg Variations were published in 1741, taking their name from Johann Gottlieb Goldberg, most likely their first performer. Comprising a Sarabande (Aria) followed by thirty variations, the work puts great technical and musical demands on the performer; a true testament to Bach’s genius, the Goldberg Variations are a virtuosic tour de force, written at the height of the composer’s artistic creativity. This will be a short early evening recital. Admission is free, no tickets required.
Cost: Free. No tickets required.
