The University Library through the ages: A historic institution focuses on the future

Fri 8 September 2017

Cambridge University Library

At this Open Cambridge event, visitors will be able to see the creation of the Cambridge University Digital Library in action, with a talk from expert staff about digitisation, the processes involved and the value for future generations of researchers. There will be a focus on 3D imaging techniques, and a live demonstration of our large format XYZ machine, used for digitising material such as large maps and scrolls.

The Digital Library provides access to significant rare books, manuscripts and other items held by the University Library at any time, and from anywhere in the world. Visitors will have a rare opportunity to see the processes involved in the creation of the Digital Library, and witness the collaborative efforts from experts in different fields working to ensure the production of images of the highest quality.
