In search of the erhu melody
Sat 31 January 2015
Cambridge University Library
Colin Huehns is a player of the erhu (or Chinese violin) currently working at the Royal Academy of Music, where he has taught the instrument as part of elective courses for fifteen years. This talk uses both English and Chinese language books in University Library collections as potential sources for the reconstruction of melodies played on the ancestors of the erhu in the eighteenth century, and is illustrated by Dr Huehns’s musical performance on antique and modern instruments.
