How do plants recognise seasons?

Science on Sundays at Cambridge University Botanic Garden.

Sun 23 July 2017

Cambridge University Botanic Garden

Over the next six months, the talks will explore fascinating plant science topics from how plants know the calendar, to how their roots adapt to their world without having a nervous system and how plants can be used as a renewable source of energy.

Phil Wigge, Research Group Leader Sainsbury Laboratory, University of Cambridge delivers the fifth talk in this series 'For everything there is a season - how plants know the calendar'. This talk will look at some recent scientific breakthroughs from around the world in our understanding of how plants sense light and temperature to drive their lifecycle. Plants flower and grow at different times of year and according to the season. This enables them to maximise their chances of reproductive success, but how do they do this?

Join Phil Wigg at the Cambridge University Botanic Garden on 23 July 2017, 11am and 2pm to find out more.

Cost: Free event included in Normal Garden Admission. Friends enter free.
