Mon 8 June 2015

Alison Richard Building

Join the Philippine Ambassador, H.E. Enrique A. Manalo, as he discusses Philippines’ emergence as one of Asia's fastest growing economies in recent years.

This event will give you the opportunity to take a closer look at one of Asia's most vibrant democracies and learn about its struggle to sustain economic resurgence through political reforms, among others. Discover various prospects and possibilities the country has to offer to the UK and the wider global community.

A Q&A session will follow the Ambassador’s main address, chaired by Dr Tomas Larsson of the Department of Politics and International Studies, University of Cambridge.

About the Philippine Ambassador

Ambassador Enrique A. Manalo has been the Philippine Ambassador to the Court of St James’s and Philippine Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) since 2011.

He is a senior member of the Philippine Foreign Service, having recently served as Undersecretary (Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs) for Policy at the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila. Prior to his posting to the United Kingdom, he served as Philippine Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union (EU). He also served as Philippine Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) in Geneva, and was assigned earlier in his career to the Philippine diplomatic missions in New York and Washington DC.

He has an extensive foreign policy experience on issues and operations of the UN and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), among others. He previously chaired a number of multilateral meetings in UN bodies, including the General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva. He is the current Chairman of the General Assembly of the International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO) in London.

In April 2015, he was named Asian Diplomat of the Year by UK’s Diplomat magazine.
