AE Russell and DP Moran in 1923: partitioned Irish intellects
Fri 26 September 2014
Alison Richard Building
Speaker: Dr Dan Mulhall, H.E The Ambassador of Ireland at the Court of St James
In his lecture H.E. the Ambassador will look at the response to Irish independence given by two prominent Irish commentators, George Russell and DP Moran. They came from very different strands of the broad Irish nationalist tradition. In 1923 (the full first year of the Irish Free State’s existence), both were editing important journals, Moran’s Leader and AE at the Irish Homestead and Irish Statesman. Dr Mulhaal will look at how they both responded to independence and partition.
