Could conserving ecosystems help to prevent future disease outbreaks? From bats and Ebola to malaria mosquitoes, we’ll explore the latest research addressing this challenging question.
Rory Gibb is a PhD student in ecology, writer and journalist, currently based at University College London’s Centre for Biodiversity and Environment Research. He is broadly interested in understanding how human activities are affecting wildlife and ecosystems, and his doctoral research focuses on predicting impacts of global environmental change on the transmission of zoonotic (animal-borne) diseases. His other work has focused on the applications of new technologies (e.g. acoustic sensors, animal tags) to monitor animals and environments. His writing on sound, music, culture and environment has recently been published in magazines including The Wire, The Quietus and CTM.
