Biological Sciences: the story of four billion years of evolution in seven hours
Sun 8 March 2015
Institute of Continuing Education
In this day school, with help from Dr Ed Turner, you will explore the evolution of life on planet Earth: from the first replicating molecules to the evolution of ‘superorganisms’. You will discuss what we mean by ‘life’ and the key processes that have led to such a bewildering diversity of species that live on our planet.
Life probably evolved over 3.8 billion years ago, but where exactly this took place and what the earliest organisms looked like is still unclear. Today our planet is home to an astonishing diversity of organisms: from single-celled bacteria to the largest animal that has ever lived. Over the course of the day we will explore the key events that have taken place to shape the evolution of life on our planet, what factors may have driven these changes and what the future might hold.
Tea, coffee and a light sandwich lunch are included in the price.
