In this weekly course at Madingley Hall, you will learn how to understand and study for yourself tombs, graves, and places and spaces of the dead in Britain over a period of 600 years, from the medieval period to the present day.
The course will progress chronologically and is multidisciplinary, drawing upon archaeology, history and architecture.
14 January: Who was really buried in 'Anglo-Saxon' cemeteries? (Dr Susan Oosthuizen)
21 January: High status tombs, 1500-1750 (Dr Susan Oosthuizen)
28 January: Commemeration and the rise of the Chantry Chapel (Dr Francis Woodman)
4 February: Pauper burials (Dr Samantha Williams)
11 February: Studying graveyards today (Dr Gilly Carr)
