Hidden Glory - Dorothy Hodgkin in her own words
By Georgina Ferry
Directed by Abbey Wright, and performed by Miranda Cook
‘Let us realise that in the last 25 years or so we have been given, so to speak, new eyes...’
Hidden Glory reveals the life and work of one of Britain's most eminent scientists: Dorothy Hodgkin, the only British female scientist to win a Nobel prize.
From a spoilt frock in Suffolk to a medal in Stockholm, the play shows how her personal and scientific lives were fully intertwined, and explores the passions that underpinned them both.
Born exactly 100 years ago, Dorothy was a pioneer both as a woman in a male-dominated profession, and as a chemist who unlocked the secrets of the living body. By turns moving and amusing, Miranda Cook's performance as Dorothy brings to life her impish sense of humour and infectious enthusiasm for chemistry.
In the tradition of Michael Frayn’s Copenhagen and Hugh Whitemore’s Breaking the Code, Hidden Glory reaches beneath the surface of a scientist’s life and reveals the drama of scientific discovery.
