The role of roots in plant survival

Science on Sundays at Cambridge University Botanic Garden.

Sun 23 April 2017

Cambridge University Botanic Garden

Over the next six months, the talks will explore fascinating plant science topics from how plants know the calendar, to how their roots adapt to their world without having a nervous system and how plants can be used as a renewable source of energy.

Dr Julia Davies from the Department Plant Sciences delivers the second in the series of talks with 'What lies beneath - the roles of roots in plant survival'. Roots anchor plants but also forage for nutrients and water. They sense and respond to their environment, including the presence of neighbours, pests and pathogens. One of the many challenges in root research is discovering how, without a nervous system, roots perceive and adapt to their world.

Join Dr Julia Davies, Department of Plant Sciences, in the Botanic Garden for this Science on Sunday talk 23 April 2017, 11am and 2pm.

Cost: Free event included in the Normal Garden Admission. Friends enter for free.
