In conjunction with the British Film Institute, the Friends of Scott Polar Research Institute are delighted to announce a special viewing of the pre-release version of the digitally restored master copy of Ponting's iconic film. The footage was shot on location during Scott's last expedition to Antarctica aboard the Terra Nova 1910-13 and was first released as The Great White Silence in 1924. It has now been digitally remastered to satisfy modern quality expectations. This allows the inner beauty of the ice and seascapes and the stories of the men to emerge in their true light and as Ponting would have wished his audience to see them - if the technology had been available. A hundred years on, the story continues to reverberate and inspire in a world struggling with conflicts of beliefs and values.
