Menahem Pressler is a founding member and the long-serving pianist of the Beaux Arts Trio, the ensemble which, for more than five decades (1955-2008), was in the words of The Washington Post ‘the gold standard for trios throughout the world’. Now in his nineties, Maestro Pressler continues to captivate audiences throughout the world as performer and pedagogue, giving solo and chamber music recitals to great critical acclaim while maintaining a dedicated and robust teaching career.
Among his numerous honours and awards, Pressler has received Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Gramophone Magazine and the International Chamber Music Association; the Gold Medal of Merit from the National Society of Arts and Letters (USA); election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences; the prestigious Wigmore Medal (UK); the Menuhin Prize given by the Queen of Spain; and inductions into the American Classical Music and Gramophone Magazine Halls of Fame.
The Mithras Trio was formed in 2017 at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and has since gone on to win a series of major international prizes, including the 67th Royal Over-Seas League Music Competition, Cavatina Chamber Music Competition, the St. James Chamber Music Competition, and most recently, in Norway, taking the First Prize at the Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition in 2019. They have taken part in masterclasses with Ralf Gothóni, Levon Chilingirian, and Alasdair Tait; and with the Takács, Danish, and Emerson Quartets.
The masterclass will run for approximately 90 minutes, without an interval
