Science on Sundays at Cambridge University Botanic Garden.
Sun 20 August 2017
Cambridge University Botanic Garden
Over the next six months, the talks will explore fascinating plant science topics from how plants know the calendar, to how their roots adapt to their world without having a nervous system and how plants can be used as a renewable source of energy. Dr Uta Paszkowski from the Department of Plant Sciences delivers the final talk in this series with 'The art and design of harmony in plant-fungal symbioses'. Almost all types of land plants in all terrestrial ecosystems take part in arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) interactions, which are globally the most widely distributed plant symbioses. This symbiotic interaction is intriguingly intimate, culminating in fungal invasion of the root where intracellular colonization of plant cells by fungal tree like structures leads to nutrient exchange that benefits both partners.
Join Dr Uta Paszkowski, Department of Plant Sciences, in the Botanic Garden for this Science on Sunday talk 20 August 2017, 11am and 2pm.
Cost: Free event included in Normal Garden Admission. Friends enter free.
