Valia Calda is a new project founded in London by brothers Thodoris & Nikos Ziarkas. A project that fulfils their shared passion for composing and performing music that is very much inspired by the Greek Folk tradition, whilst drawing influences from a vast variety of styles.

Their involvement with the Greek traditional music from an early age, followed by their interest in contemporary music has created the urge to combine into their music Mediterranean sounds, Jazz harmonies, complex Balkan rhythms and free improvisation.

The diversity of rhythmic language, improvisations and sounds that is brought into compositions, alongside with experimental arrangements on folk tunes, merge the group’s material; material which are embraced by each member’s unique approach and creativity.
EM is Ecclestone Music.... Heavy alt-rock beats alternating with more sonorous light & shade; original pocket-soundtracks to imaginary films interspersed with a few choice covers. EM is Dan Ecclestone (piano and compositions), Joel Humann (double bass) and Derek Scurll (drums) but often involves friends, including Bruce & Helen Godfrey (Violin & Cello), Jamie Harris (Tenor Sax) and James Brady (Trumpet). This Friday EM will be joined by London-based sax supremo Jamie Michael Harris (Nile Rodgers, Maceo Parker, Eddie Henderson
