Reconciliation on the Korean Peninsula: another key to peace in Northeast Asia

Lee Hae-chan was the 36th prime minister of the ROK (2004-06). He is
currently the chairman of the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation, as well as a member of
the ROK Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee. Educated at Seoul National
University, Prime Minister Lee began his career in the Korean democratization
movement, and in 1988 became a member of the ROK National Assembly. He was
appointed vice mayor of Seoul in 1995, and minister for education in 1999. He is
currently a member of the National Assembly for Sejong.
His talk will consider a variety of issues including: inter-Korean
relations, Japanese rearmament and the North Korean nuclear issue,
the impact of history in this the 70th anniversary year of the ending of
World War II, as well as changing notions of order in Northeast Asia
and the prospects for peace on the peninsula.
